How to remove dried paint from YOUR carpet

One of the worst stains that you can get on your carpet is from paint, especially if you are the D.I.Y type of person. Unlike any other stains, paint is visible and will not fade easily. But don’t feel bad about it. Here’s a way on how to remove that ugly dried paint stain.

The materials needed for this task are:

- Spray bottle
- Plenty white cloth rags
- Putty knife
- Liquid dish soap
- Plain water
- Very hot water
- Carpet Shampooer
- Distilled white vinegar
- Vacuum cleaner

The ingredients below are needed for you to create your own dried paint stain remover.

- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp olive oil or melted coconut oil
- ½ tsp lemon juice
- 5 drops eucalyptus, lemon or orange essential oil

Simply mix all of the ingredients stated above until it turns into a loose paste.

Now we proceed to removing the dried paint stain on your carpet. Here are the steps to do it:
  1. Use the white cloth rag to retrieve a small amount of the dried paint stain remover and apply it generously on the dried paint stain on your carpet
  2. Let the dried paint stain remover settle for 5 minutes
  3. Gently scrape up the loosened paint using the putty knife. Do this gently to prevent the tear up or pull out of carpet fibers. Then use a clean rag to wipe the edges of the putty knife to lift away the scraped paint stain
  4. If the dried paint stain seems difficult to remove, wait for another 5 minutes and repeat steps 1-3 until you have removed all of the paint
  5. Fill the spray bottle with hot water and add a few drops of the liquid dish soap. Swirl it gently for it to combine then spray it on the area on the stained area. But be careful not to spray excessively though because the carpet might get molds or mildew.
  6. Dab the area using the white cloth rag to remove the dried paint residue. We recommended using white cloth rag because they do not transfer dyes back to your carpet. Do not rub the rag against the carpet so that the dried paint is transferred to the carpet effectively. Make sure that you always use the clean part of the rag as you work for it not to smear the paint back at the carpet

***If the D.I.Y. dried paint stain remover is not effective in scraping out the paint, you may use Goo Gone goo & adhesive remover***

To effectively shampoo the carpet:
  1. Fill the carpet shampooer with plain water and use it to clean the stained area of the carpet. Repeat the suction passes slowly to extract as much moisture out of the carpet as possible. This will help rinse away the dried paint stain remover, soap or water left on the carpet.
  2. Let it dry overnight or use a fan to speed up the drying process. Make sure that pets are out of the area
  3. Once the carpet is dry, combine equal parts of very hot water and distilled white vinegar to your carpet shampooer tank and use it to clean the stained area. This will neutralize ammonia and dissolve any remaining residues on the carpet
  4. Go over your carpet at a right angle to the direction you used to clean your carpet. Once again, work very slowly for you get as much moisture out as possible
  5. Let the carpet dry overnight and vacuum the carpet thoroughly using a vacuum cleaner to fluff the fibers.

Thanks for the tips. One of my new hires forgot to check the plastic floor guard and sure enough got paint on the carpet. I ended up skipping straight to the goo gone. Worked out well for <a href="https://www.paintersofroundrock.com/>my business</a> and saved me money on calling a professional.
